In Davos agreed to a temporary order of consideration of appeals to the WTO

Today in Davos, the European Union and the Ministers of the 16 member countries of the world trade organization (WTO) agreed to develop a mechanism for interim appeals, which will allow WTO members to maintain a functional two-step dispute resolution system. This initiative was launched in mid-December 2019, the EU and several other WTO members after the actual paralysis of the Appellate body of the WTO for blocking any new appointments from 2017 from the United States.

"multi-party appeal an arbitration mechanism ensures that the participating WTO members will continue to have access to mandatory, impartial and quality dispute resolution system between them," said trade Commissioner Phil Hogan.

This agreement is the measure in case of unforeseen circumstances and will apply only as long as the WTO Appellate body again starts to function.

"the EU believes that an independent and impartial stage of the appeal, giving the necessary guarantee solutions of the highest quality, should continue to be one of the important features of the dispute settlement system of the WTO", - said the press service of European Commission.
