Prices for Italian plates are declining due to low consumption

According to Callanish, the prices of rolled steel in Italy have decreased since mid-June due to continued weak demand.

Manufacturers remain indifferent, waiting for the inevitable price recovery caused by CBAM-related slab costs and new protective measures.

Meanwhile, distributors do not expect sales growth in the short term, given the low volume of orders in the secondary market. They expect demand to recover in September, with some activity possible in July before the August shutdown.

However, sources do not expect prices to rise until at least September. Producer sources expect some consumption to resume in July.

Trading and distribution companies, as well as factories, describe the market as stagnant and uneventful.

Factories are slowly filling their portfolios of orders for July. Selling prices for grade S275 currently amount to 720 euros per ton ($825.1 per ton), which is about 20 euros lower than in mid-June. According to sources, the prices of slabs in Asia are stable and amount to $ 600 per ton compared to the prices of slabs in Italy, and with large volumes they are about 30 euros per ton cheaper.
