World steel production in October fell by almost 11%
The global production of liquid steel for the 64 countries that submitted reports to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) in October 2021 amounted to 145.7 million tons, which is 10.6% less compared to October 2020. Compared to the previous month, global steel production remained at the same level.
In ten months from the beginning of this year, world steel production is still 5.9% higher than in the same period last year and amounts to 1,607.1 million tons.
In October 2021, China produced 71.6 million tons of steel, which is 23.3% less than in October 2020. India smelted 9.8 million tons (+ 2.4%), Japan - 8.2 million tons (+ 14.3%). South Korea produced 5.8 million tons (-1.0%).
The USA smelted 7.5 million tons of steel, which is 20.5% more than in October 2020.
According to worldsteel estimates, 6.1 million tons of steel were produced in Russia, which is 0.5% less than in the same month last year.
Germany produced 3.7 million tons of steel (+ 7.0%). Turkey smelted 3.5 million tons (+ 8.0%). The association estimates that Brazil produced 3.2 million tonnes (+ 10.4%). Iran produced 2.2 million tons of steel, which is 15.3% less than in October 2020.
