World steel production in March fell by 5.8%

Global liquid steel production in the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) was 161.0 million tonnes in March 2022, down 5.8% from March 2021.

In the first three months of 2022, global steel production decreased by 6.8% to 456.6 million tons.

Asia and Oceania produced 331.3 million tonnes of steel in the first quarter of 2022, down 7.8% from the first quarter of 2021.

The EU (27) produced 36.8 million tons of steel in the first quarter of 2022, down 3.8% compared to the same quarter in 2021.

North American steel production in the first three months of 2022 was 28.1 million tonnes, down 0.9% from the first quarter of 2021.

Russia and other CIS countries + Ukraine produced 24.0 million tons of steel in the first quarter of 2022, which is 8.5% less than in the first quarter of 2021.
