World steel production in September fell by 0.3%
Global crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the Worldsteel World Steel Association was 151.5 million tonnes in September 2019, down 0.3% from September 2018. In nine months, global steel production reached 1,391.2 million tonnes, an increase of 3.9% over the same period in 2018.
In January - September 2019, Asia smelted one billion tons of steel, which is 6.3% more compared to the first nine months of 2018. During this period, the EU countries produced 122.5 million tons of steel, which is 2.8% less compared to the same period in 2018. North American steel production in the first nine months of 2019 was 90.6 million tonnes, up 0.3% year-on-year. The CIS produced 76.0 million tons of steel in January-September, which is 0.1% less than in the same period in 2018.
China's steel production in September 2019 was 82.8 Mt, an increase of 2.2% compared to September 2018. India produced 9.0 million tonnes of steel, 1.6% more than in September 2018. Japan smelted 8.0 million tonnes of steel in September 2019, decreasing production by 4.5% compared to September last year. Steel production in South Korea in September 2019 was 5.7 million tonnes, down 2.7% from September 2018.
In September 2019, 3.4 million steel was smelted in Germany, which is 4.0% less than in September 2018. Italy produced 2.2 million tonnes of steel in September 2019, up 1.1% over September 2018. France smelted 1.2 million tonnes of steel, down 10.2% from September 2018. Spain produced 1.2 million tonnes of steel in September 2019, down 1.0% from September 2018.
In September 2019, the United States produced 7.1 million tonnes of steel, down 2.5% from September 2018.
Brazilian steel production in September 2019 was 2.4 million tonnes, down 22.0% from September 2018.
Turkey's steel production in September 2019 was 2.7 million tonnes, 6.9% less than in September 2018.
September steel production in Russia decreased by 4.1% compared to last year and amounted to 5.6 million tons.
Steel production in Ukraine in September amounted to 1.7 million tons, which is 2.3% less than in September 2018.
