ArcelorMittal approved the "green deal" of the European Commission
Europe's Commitment to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to net zero is to be welcomed, and we commend the leadership of Ms. von der Leyen and her team, said after publishing "Green Agreement", European Commission Gert van Poelvoorde, CEO ArcelorMittal Europe.
However, according to him, the "green deal" will only work when a full-scale transformation and support all industries, including the steel.
"the climate Problem is an unprecedented, and therefore requires decisive action," said Poelvoorde.
He noted that achieving the goal of carbon-neutral economy by 2050 is a major challenge, but with the right political structure - which allows European steel companies to remain competitive, it is achievable.
"the Proposal to adjust the boundaries of carbon emissions, which effectively establishes a price on carbon imports, recognizes that each country must play its part in reducing global emissions of CO2. Prevent the displacement of steel production to countries where legislation on carbon emissions are less stringent and, consequently, carbon emissions above, means that we put an end to carbon leakage. This is exactly the type of action that is necessary", said the head of ArcelorMittal Europe.
Despite the fact that in recent months support adjustments carbon border grew, ArcelorMittal was one of the first companies that supported the proposed adjustment of the carbon boundaries and supports the European Commission's proposals in respect of the Fund "just transition" with 35 billion euros for investment in research, innovation and green technologies.
