World steel production rose 2.1% in January
Global crude steel production for 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) was 154.4 million tonnes in January 2020, up 2.1% from January 2019.
China's steel production in January 2020 was 84.3 million tonnes, up 7.2% compared to January 2019. India produced 9.3 million tonnes of steel in January 2020, 3.2% less than in January 2019. Japan produced 8.2 million tonnes of steel in January 2020, down 1.3% from January 2019. Steel production in South Korea in January 2020 was 5.8 million tons, which is a decrease of 8.0% YoY.
In the EU, Italy produced 1.9 million tons of steel in January 2020, which is 4.9% less than in January 2019. France produced 1.3 million tonnes of steel in January 2020, up 4.5% over January 2019.
In January 2020, the US produced 7.7 million tonnes of steel, up 2.5% from January 2019.
Brazilian steel production in January 2020 was 2.7 million tonnes, down 11.1% from January 2019.
Steel production in Turkey in January 2020 amounted to 3.0 million tons, which is 17.3% more than in January 2019.
Steel production in Ukraine last month amounted to 1.8 million tons, which is 0.4% less than in January 2019.
