Ukraine will ban the construction of new solar power plants

the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the draft Memorandum of understanding with the investors and producers of electricity from renewable energy sources (RES). The decision was taken at a government meeting on June 10, reports the press service of the Ministry.

"the Ministry has been able to reach compromise agreements, taking into account the interests of both consumers and investors in renewable energy, and the state as a whole. These arrangements are set out in the draft Memorandum of understanding for settlement of problematic issues in the field of renewable energy in Ukraine", - said acting Minister of energy Olga Buslovich during the Government meeting.

In its negotiating position with investors, the Ministry aimed to achieve maximal reduction "green" tariff, to stop the rapid uncontrolled growth of SPP capacity, strengthen accountability for established producers from renewable energy sources, the unbalance without additional concessions from the state, but taking into account the need to minimize risks of lawsuits and arbitrations on the part of investors.

the Memorandum provides for the drop of the green tariff for solar power by 15% for wind power plants by 7.5%. Furthermore, the prescribed strengthening of responsibility for the unbalance.

the Document also provides for the termination of construction of new SES from July this year and restrictions on the construction of the wind farm after completion of ongoing projects.

In the near future to introduce in Parliament a bill that implementeret these agreements.

"All these conditions will keep the state an attractive investment image and to maintain the status of a state that fulfils its obligations", - said Olga Buslovich.
