World steel production in November increased by 6.6%

Global crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 158.3 million tonnes in November 2020, up 6.6% from November 2019.

The association warned that due to the ongoing difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, many of this month's numbers are estimates that could be revised with production data next month.

In Asia

China produced 87.7 million tons of steel in November 2020, which is 8.0% more than in November 2019.India produced 9.2 million tons of steel in November 2020, which is 3.5 % more than in November 2019. Japan produced 7.3 million tons of steel in November 2020, which is 5.9% less than in November 2019. South Korea's steel production in November 2020 was 5.8 million tonnes, 2.4% less than in November 2019.

In the European Union

Germany produced 3.4 million tonnes of steel in November 2020, up 14.8% over November 2019. Italy produced 2.0 million tonnes of steel in November 2020, up 3.2% over November 2019. France produced 1.1 million tonnes of steel in November. 2020, which is 3.7% more than in November 2019

Elsewhere in Europe

Turkey's steel production in November 2020 was 3.2 million tonnes, 11.6% more than in November 2019.

In North America

The United States produced 6.1 million tonnes of steel in November 2020, down 13.7% from November 2019.

CIS

The total production in the CIS is estimated at 8.2 million tons in November 2020, which is 7.0% more than in November 2019. In Russia, steel production amounted to 5.8 million tons, which is 1.9 % more than in November 2019 Ukraine produced 1.7 million tons of steel in November 2020, which is 30.8% more than in November 2019

In South America

Brazil produced 3.0 million tonnes of steel in November 2020, 11.2% more than in November 2019.
