China has published a plan for the development of hydrogen energy for the period 2021-2035.
On Wednesday, the National Development and Reform Commission of the People's Republic of China and the State Administration of Energy Affairs of the People's Republic of China jointly released the 2021-2035 hydrogen energy development plan as the country aims to achieve peak carbon emissions and become carbon neutral.
By 2025, a relatively complete hydrogen energy development system will be established in China, innovation capacity will be greatly enhanced, and key technologies and production processes will be mainly mastered, the plan says.
It is expected that the annual production of hydrogen from renewable energy sources will reach 100 thousand - 200 thousand tons, which will become an important part of the consumption of new hydrogen energy by 2025 and will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by one to two million tons per year.
By 2030, China will have a rational and orderly industrial structure, and will widely use renewable energy sources for hydrogen production, which will become a strong pillar for achieving the goal of achieving peak carbon emissions.
According to the plan, by 2035 the share of hydrogen produced from renewable energy sources in the final energy consumption will increase significantly, which will play an important supporting role in the development of the country's green energy.
