June car sales in China up 24%

China's auto sales regained strong momentum in June, helped by waning COVID-19 outbreaks and strong policy stimulus, industrial data showed on Monday.

According to the China Automobile Manufacturers Association, a total of 2.5 million vehicles were sold in June, up 23.8% year-on-year.

At the same time, passenger car sales grew by 41.2% year on year to 2.22 million units.

Overall, from January to June, sales of new cars in China rose by a modest 3.4% year-on-year to 10.4 million units.

Automotive sales in China have been hit by consumer worries about the economic downturn and anti-virus controls introduced since late March.

Production is being held back by a shortage of processor chips and the disruption of global supply chains.
