India's JISPL extends blast furnace maintenance indefinitely
Indian steelmaker JSW Steel, JSW Ispat Special Products Limited (JISPL), has extended a maintenance shutdown of its blast furnace and other operations at its Raigarh plant in Chhattisgarh.
Earlier, the company postponed the repair of the sintering machine and steelmaking shop to June 21st. The outage was supposed to last 25 days, but has now been extended without specifying how long extended maintenance will last.
The company began shutting down blast furnaces last month after the Indian government imposed a 15% export duty on several steel products.
Weak domestic demand and new export duties heightened concerns about oversupply in the domestic market. Steel mills in India are likely to cut production and start maintenance work earlier to balance the market.
