Elon Musk's Shanghai factory produces first million Tesla electric vehicles

The US electric car maker Tesla's Shanghai plant has produced a million vehicles in three years, Elon Musk's company said on Monday.

Established in 2019, Tesla's gigafactory in Shanghai is the automaker's first gigafactory outside the US. The level of localization of the production chain of the plant exceeds 95%, while 99.99% of the plant's employees are Chinese.

According to Tesla China, in January-June this year, the plant, which is an important export center for Tesla, exported 97,182 vehicles. For comparison, in the same period last year, this figure was 41,770 units.

Tesla shipped a record 77,938 vehicles to China in June, up 177% from a year earlier. Tesla's Shanghai plant produced nearly 300,000 vehicles in the first half of this year.
