Export of scrap metal from Japan in January-July decreased by 25.4%

According to customs statistics, Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 435,132 tons in July this year, down 27.2% from 598,018 tons in the same month last year. In January-July this year, the country exported 3.58 million tons of scrap metal, which is 25.4% less compared to the same period last year.

During this period, South Korea was the largest importer of Japanese scrap, importing 1.89 million tons, up 8.3% year on year. South Korea is followed by Vietnam and Taiwan, which imported 788,501 tons and 306,237 tons of scrap metal, down 51.0% and 25.6%, respectively, year on year.

Meanwhile, exports of Japanese scrap to Bangladesh fell to 165,150 tons between January and July this year, compared to 292,591 tons in the same period last year.
