India will check all imports of stainless steel from Indonesia
The Indian Ministry of Commerce has announced that it has begun an investigation into the Indonesian government's grants and subsidies for stainless steel exports, which harmed Indian companies producing similar steel products.
An investigation was launched in response to a complaint filed by Indian Stainless Steel Development Association, Jindal Stainless, Jindal Stainless (Hisar) and Jindal Stainless Steelway, which demanded countervailing duties on Indonesian stainless steel.
A countervailing duty is a customs duty levied on goods that have received government subsidies in the country of origin or export.
The investigation includes all stainless steel products with the exception of razor blades and coin blanks, the ministry said.
The investigation period covers the period from April 2018 to March 2019, which is the full Indian financial year.
