Iran commissions a gold mine with a capacity of 3 tons per year
Zar-Kouh Mining in the western Iranian province of Kurdestan has launched a new gold mine that is expected to increase the country's total annual gold bar production by 3,000 kg.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani opened the Sari-Guni mine via videoconference, reports the Financial Tribune.
Rial 3 trillion (roughly $ 12.76 million) was invested in the construction of the new mine and reportedly will employ 350 people.
Speaking at the mine launch event, Iranian President Rouhani said that over the past seven years, the production of gold bars in Iran has grown 14 times.
Last year, Iranian mines produced about 8.5 tons of gold. The predominantly gold mining mines of Iran are small enterprises with a population of about 100 people.
