At least 600,000 5G base stations will be built in China next year, Minister of Industry and Informatization of the People's Republic of China Xiao Yaqing said today at an industry workshop.
According to him, in 2021, the ministry plans to consistently promote the construction and use of 5G networks, accelerate the expansion of the 5G network coverage in large cities, encouraging the principle of joint construction and sharing.
The agency will focus on 10 leading industries and form 20 typical industrial network application scenarios, deploy test sites for industrial 5G networks, and timely announce a plan for some 5G millimeter-wave frequency bands, the minister said.
In addition, he noted, the ministry will make additional efforts to optimize and modernize the network, increase the number of gigabit Internet users to more than 200 million and suppress violations of the rights and interests of users through various applications.
Earlier today, the State Committee for Development and Reforms and the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC published an updated list of industrial sectors where foreign investment is encouraged. The emerging sectors also include 5G mobile communications technology.
Foreign investors investing in the listed industries will be granted preferential treatment in areas such as taxation and land use in accordance with the law and regulations.
