9 meters high and 43 tons in weight: a hydraulic unit shaft was installed at the Sredneprovskaya HPP

At the Sredneprovskaya HPP of Ukraine, as part of the reconstruction of the second stage, the specialists of Dnepro-Spetsgidroenergomontazh, together with the station workers, carried out the transfer and installation of a new shaft of hydroelectric unit No. 1. This large-sized part weighing almost 43 tons, 8.9 m high was manufactured by the enterprise "Ukrainian Energy Machines"

The shaft of this design is installed again, for the first time it was installed on the hydraulic unit No. 2. A feature of these shafts is their monolithic construction. A shaft of this design greatly simplifies the process of installation and repair of the hydraulic unit. Previous hydraulic units had two shafts that were connected to each other.

The hydro turbine shaft is one of the most important elements of the rotor hydraulic unit. With one flange it is rigidly attached to the impeller, with the other it is connected to the generator rotor. Through the turbine shaft, the torque corresponding to the power of the hydraulic unit is transmitted from the impeller to the generator rotor.

Currently, two hydroelectric units - No. 1 and No. 2 - are under reconstruction at the Sredneprovskaya HPP. The reconstruction is taking place without stopping the hydroelectric power plant, without affecting the provision of peak load coverage and a mobile emergency reserve in the United Energy System of Ukraine.

Note that the reconstruction is carried out within the framework of the project "Rehabilitation of hydroelectric power plants", which is co-financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB). The modernization of hydroelectric units will increase the capacity of the hydroelectric power plant, increase the volume of electricity production, extend the life of the equipment of Ukrainian hydroelectric power plants and strengthen the reliability of the country's energy system.
