Tibnor supplies SSAB Zero steel for shipbuilding in Norway
SSAB Zero is a signature SSAB brand made from recycled steel and produced using fossil-free electricity and biogas. The Salthammer shipyard in Vestnes has ordered it for two 30-metre power supply vessels.
Norwegian shipping company AQS Rederi AS has ordered two Coastern 28eH supply vessels from the shipbuilder to be used for fish farming tasks. Both vessels feature newly developed designs from Tomra Engineering AS. SSAB subsidiary Tibnor will supply a total of 300 tonnes of SSAB Zero Salthammer Båtbyggeri in two shipments.
The vessels will be electric propulsion, powered by batteries with capacities of 2,000 kWh and 1,600 kWh respectively. Coastern 28eH is a versatile supply vessel with large cranes, efficient deck equipment and a bollard pull of over 25 tonnes.
“It’s great to have Salthammer on board as we move towards fossil fuel-free value chains. SSAB Zero is an excellent material for the new generation of electrically powered supply vessels. We will supply the steel in the form of steel sheets with a thickness of 6–15 mm, and the shipment for the first vessel will ship in November,” says Svein Johansen, Sales Director at Tibnor.
