WTO to consider China's complaint about Indian batteries and electric vehicles
The World Trade Organization (WTO) has announced the creation of a commission to review China's complaint about incentives imposed by India in the automotive and renewable energy sectors, AFP reports.
Beijing argues that these measures, which include incentives for Indian companies to produce advanced chemical batteries, cars, automotive components, and electric vehicles, discriminate against foreign companies and the use of Chinese products, which violates WTO rules. After an initial consultation request in October failed, China last month submitted an application to establish a commission, which was initially blocked by India but was eventually approved on Tuesday by the dispute settlement authority. According to WTO rules, the second application for the creation of the commission, as a rule, has a better chance of success.
India regretted the decision, saying that it had participated in the consultations in good faith and that its measures were in line with WTO rules. The United States also expressed disappointment over China's move.
