XPENG to build a base for mass production of humanoid robots in Guangzhou

On February 25, XPENG announced plans to build the industry's first mass production facility for humanoid robots in Guantan Science and Technology Innovation Town, the Embedded Intelligence Industrial Park in the Tianhe district of Guangzhou City, marking the transition from technology verification to large-scale production, Gasgoo reports. The 110,000 square meter park will provide infrastructure adapted for research and development in the field of robotics and manufacturing, including power supply systems and carrier capabilities, and will also contribute to the development of the technology + manufacturing ecosystem of artificial intelligence. The first phase will focus on the construction of robotics production lines to support the industrial production of the advanced humanoid robot XPENG, IRON, as well as a strategic cooperation agreement signed with the Tianhe District Government to promote the embodied intelligence sector.

Developed over the course of seven years based on early four-legged robots, Iron is a highly anthropomorphic humanoid with a human spine, biomimetic muscles, flexible skin, a 3D display in the form of a curved head, dynamic bionic shoulders and dexterous arms with 22 degrees of freedom. The robot will use fully solid-state batteries, three Turing AI chips with a computing power of 2,250 TOPS, and a large second-generation XPENG VLA model combining advanced brain systems for interaction and walking. The complete XPENG in-house development system, tested on smart electric vehicles, is expected to help overcome industry challenges such as limited training data and the complexity of mass production.
