Steel producers in Europe are slowly being pushed forward with rising hot-rolled coil prices for local customers, Fastmarkets learned on Tuesday, August 5.
The sell-side sources the uncertainty about the future of imported material before the introduction of the EU carbon border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), as well as the possible tightening of protective measures as an opportunity to increase selling prices.
Market sources report that the HRC cargoes scheduled for delivery in October are changing owners in Northern Europe to €560-570 ($648-660) per ton of Ex-work, the official offers vary significantly in the range from €580-590 per ton of delivery or pickup.
And although these higher prices have not been fully accepted, a number of sources note that by the end of the fourth quarter of 2025, integrated plants in the region will strive to reach €600-610 per ton of Ex-work.
At the same time, a supplier in the Benelux region was said to be still offering the material at €560 per tonne delivered, €550 per tonne ex-work.
There was no information circulating on the market about which volumes of material from integrated products with an earlier delivery in August or September, available at €540 per ton of Ex-work.
Which said the buyer's sources estimated the current workable prices at a wide range of €540-570 per ton of Ex-work.
As a result of Fastmarkets’ calculation of the daily steel index HRC, domestic, pickup of Northern Europe, Euro 560.18 ($648.67) on August 5, up to €0.18 from August 4.
The Nordic index was €1.85 per tonne week-on-week and by €10.18 per tonne compared to the previous month.
Market sources note that sellers in Italy have also managed to increase transaction prices in the range of €530-540 per tonne on ex-factory terms, and in some cases up to €550 per tonne on ex-factory terms, while offering a variety ranging from €550-550 per tonne of ex-work.
Fastmarkets daily hot-rolled steel coil index, domestic, on EXW terms in Italy, was calculated at €535.00 per ton on Tuesday, which is €7.50 per day for the day.
The index also increased by €6.87 per tonne week-on-week and by €5.00 per tonne compared to the previous month.
