Jindal Steele is Back in the business of acquiring ADI

Indian steel company Jindal Steel has expressed interest in acquiring Acciaierie d'Italia (ADI), an Italian manufacturer of rolled steel products, which is in a difficult position. This was announced by the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, in the Senate on March 12.

"India's Jindal Group, the world's leading steel producer, expressed interest in the entire steel complex last night with an ambitious industrial plan that guarantees a complete decarbonization process," Urso said.

ADI now has two potential buyers – Jindal Steel and Flacks Group, a U.

S.-based investment company specializing in the recovery of troubled enterprises.

Market sources have suggested that the Italian authorities will consider both proposals by April 15.

Earlier, Jindal Steel tried to acquire ADI, but in September 2025 refused to participate in the tender because it could not reach an agreement with the Italian authorities, in particular regarding the gas supply of the plant. The company submitted a non-binding offer to the German division of Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe after it refused to participate in the race for ADI. A week before March 13, German media reported that a potential deal between Thyssenkrupp and Jindal Steel could fall through because the parties could not agree on some key issues.

Earlier this month, Flacks Group informed McCloskey that it was considering acquiring Thyssenkrupp if Jindal Steel decided against the purchase.

In February, ADI temporarily shut down Blast furnace No. 4 for maintenance until the end of April. Team No. 2 was relaunched on February 10th. The steel company plans to double its steel production (3:8) (3:5) to 4 million tons per year by the end of April 2026 and continue operating two furnaces. However, a recent court decision ordering ADI's decision to suspend production at the Taranto plant from August 24 for health reasons may disrupt these plans.
