Germany needs 260,000 skilled migrants every year
Over the next 40 years, Germany will require a minimum of 260,000 foreign workers annually to meet its economic needs. These are the results of a study released by the German Bertelsmann-Stiftung on Tuesday, February 12th. At the same time, experts expect the arrival of 114,000 migrants from other EU member states and another 146,000 from third countries.
Mostly we are talking about highly qualified specialists, the researchers note, especially in the context of the growing digitalization of the labor market and the widespread introduction of digital technologies. At the same time, the Foundation's experts believe that the current policy of the federal government in the area of migration does not meet these demands.
“ If you look at the main supplying countries of asylum seekers, almost 65 percent of migrants are employed as service personnel ,” the report says. In 2017, more than a third of all those who came to look for work in Germany from non-EU countries did not have documents confirming their profession.
