Amazon.com invests over €1 billion in European fleet of electric vans and trucks
Amazon.com Inc said on Monday that it will invest more than 1 billion euros over the next five years in the European production of low-emission electric vehicles.
The retailer said the investment was also aimed at driving innovation in the transportation industry and encouraging the creation of a public electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
As a result of the investment, Amazon.com's own EV fleet in Europe will more than triple from 3,000 vehicles to over 10,000 by 2025.
The company said it is investing in thousands of chargers at sites across Europe along with electric vehicles.
The retailer said it is also investing today to double its European network of micromobility centers in over 20 cities.
Amazon has used these centrally located hubs to launch new delivery methods, including electric cargo bikes or delivery on foot, to reduce emissions.
