More than 10.5 million new passenger cars were sold in the EU in 2023
In 2023, the EU automotive market ended with significant growth - almost 14% compared to 2022. Annual sales exceeded 10.5 million units, reports the European Automobile Association ACEA.
At the end of the year, all EU markets grew, with the exception of Hungary (-3.4%).
Double-digit growth was recorded in three major markets: Italy (+18.9%), Spain (+16.7%) and France (+16.1%). Germany showed a more modest figure - plus 7.3%.
In 2023, electric vehicles (BEVs) became the third most popular choice of European buyers. Their share of the EU market increased to 14.6%, surpassing that of diesel cars (13.6%). Gasoline cars retained their leadership – 35.3% of the market. Hybrid cars (HEV and PHEV) accounted for 33.5% of new passenger car sales.
