Steel production in Italy continues to grow

Crude steel production in Italy increased again in April after rising in March and the first quarter, according to a report from the Federacciai industry association obtained by[b]Kallanish[/b].

Production in April increased by 6% compared to the same period last year and amounted to just over 1.7 million tons. The volume of production in the first four months of this year also increased by 3.8% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 7.3 million tons.

"The improvement trend has affected two families of hot-rolled products," says Federacci. The production of flat rolled products increased by 13.3% to 817,000 tons in April and by 10.5% to 3.3 million tons in January-April. The production of rolled products increased by 6.5% to 1 million tons in April and by 0.9% to 4.1 million tons in the first four months.

Italian production has continued to decline in recent years, falling by 5% year-on-year in 2024 to 19.9 million tons, by 2.5% year-on-year in 2023 to 21 million tons, and by 11.5% year-on-year in 2022 to 21.6 million tons.
