Prices for imported spare German fittings
Sources report that the stability of prices for German rebar, despite the reduction in scrap costs, is also not strongly threatened by cheaper offers for the import of rebar. To some extent, this also applies to Austria.
German ports are quite popular with small coastal vessels with a cargo capacity of more than 5,000 tons. One of the observers cites the example of a shipment from Algeria, which is offered at a price of 600 euros per ton (683 US dollars) in the German port of cif. But he warns that this offer is not necessarily attractive to buyers living further south.
This is confirmed by the manager of an East German joint-stock company located near the coast. "They[Algerian suppliers]are offering 630 euros per ton with door-to-door delivery," he tells Callanish. But the size range is limited, and, apparently, the supply extends to a volume of 5,000 tons, that is, almost the entire cargo - these days, when demand is low, few buyers will risk purchasing such a tonnage.
Therefore, German buyers prefer domestic material, which some offer at a price of 665 euros per ton from the factory, others - up to 695 euros per ton, depending on the transaction. The base price is 400-430 euros, plus an additional size of €265.
Relative price stability is also observed in Austria, even among Italian suppliers. Offers from there come at base prices of 360-370 euros, which is 100 euros higher than domestic prices in Italy. "There are problems with the transport space," one manager explains, and gives the impression that "that's why they[Italian suppliers]prefer to sell domestic products."
Offers from domestic and German manufacturers in Austria cost 630-640 euros per ton. The rebar in the coil is very difficult to offer, with a slight price difference between domestic (€660) and Italian factories (€650), the manager says.
Further north, buyers are also experiencing a shortage of coils in Germany. However, the standard surcharge of 20 euros per ton of bars is still charged per roll. Various sources report that the shortage of supply does not help much to maintain prices due to low demand from construction companies.
