Prices for German fittings are decreasing

Rebar prices in Germany fell, as some market participants expected, after a downward trend had been observed in neighboring countries for several months.

The base prices have now largely declined to around 400 euros per tonne ($460), which has remained at the same level for a long time. without failures, while some transactions reach a maximum of 430 euros per ton. The buyer from the Ruhr distribution/bending company tellsKallanishabout the base prices in the range from 380 to 390 euros, which, combined with an average size surcharge of 265 euros, will give 645-655 euros per ton.

While smaller buyers can expect a higher price. Perhaps we should still expect an increase in prices, since the fact that the barrier of 400 euros per ton has been overcome is confirmed by data from Southern Germany, where the price level is usually lower than in the Ruhr. The local manager attributes this decrease to the previous drop in scrap prices, which dropped by more than $50 per ton in Rotterdam a month ago.

Scrap prices have not fallen so sharply in Germany, but factories are taking them into account to some extent, in particular in the Ruhr. - says the customer. German scrap metal dealers resisted the sharp drop in export prices, reducing only limited volumes by $50 per ton, but demanded higher prices when factories needed more supplies, he explains.

The fall in rebar prices occurred quickly, which the buyer explains by the typical behavior of buyers during periods of low prices. Demand: "As soon as the trend goes down, people buy even less than before," he says.

He also notes that Riva Germany now offers a wider range of products and sizes again. While the EDP at Riva Hennigsdorf is idle, the rolling mill has been temporarily rebuilt to meet customer demand.
