Steel production in Sweden decreased in the first half of the year

Swedish factories produced 341,000 tons of steel in June, which is 4.1% less than in June 2024, Kallanish reports, citing data from the country's steel producers federation, Jernkontoret.

In the first six months of this year, a total of 2,170,000 tons of steel were produced in Sweden, which is 2.1% less than in the same period last year.

Production statistics are compiled by Jernkontoret and are based on data from 11 crude steel plants in Sweden.

The year-on-year decline in production is likely to continue in the second half of the year. The country's largest steel producer, SSAB, said in July it planned to reduce its production in Europe in the second half of the year. The company cited weak results in the second quarter, while its North American division performed well during the period.
