The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) has sounded the alarm about the existential crisis facing the European steel industry. Due to the sharp increase in imports, US tariffs closing export routes, and the growth of excess production capacity in the world, the EESC warns that Europe risks losing not only its steelmaking capacity, but also its strategic autonomy, "green transition" and industrial security.
