Domestic prices for long products in Poland remain unchanged with weak demand

Polish steel rebar and wire rod prices remained stable in the week to Friday, October 17, with weak demand and cheap imports affecting the market, Fastmarkets sources said.

"Demand is still weak," a distributor source told Fastmarkets, adding that the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) should help "raise" prices after it comes into effect in early 2026.

In the week before October 17, estimates of the feasible level for wire rod were heard around 2.580-2.650 zloty ($711-730) per ton, the same as a week earlier.

What proposals have been made and are hovering around 2,650-2,700 zlotys per ton on CPT terms.

. Thus, Fastmarkets' weekly price estimate for steel wire (drawing quality), domestic, supplied in Poland, was 2.580-2.650 zlotys per ton on October 17th, unchanged over the week.

Steel rod prices have remained unchanged since mid-August, with regulatory uncertainty, stagnation in the construction sector and high energy costs among the main reasons for the slowdown in the market, Fastmarkets has heard.

Rebar prices in Poland were also stable in the week to October 17th.

Estimates of the operational level were heard fluctuating around 2.420-2.450 zlotys per ton, the CPT, as well as other calculations, were seen in early October.

Prices for domestic rebar have also been unchanged since early October, following the start of price increases seen in the second half of September as a result of mills aiming for higher supply, Fastmarkets has heard.

Weekly price analysis

Fastmarkets’ price for steel reinforcing bars (rebar), domestic, checkpoint Poland, was 2.420-2.450 zlotys per ton on October 17, also unchanged for the week.

Some of the rebar imports from Ukraine were also recorded at around €525 ($611) per ton, which is on the border of the DAF.
