The fire in Marcegaglia, Ravenna, did not cause major production delays

There have been no reports of major production disruptions at the Marcegaglia plant in Ravenna, Italy, following last week's fire. The fire broke out at one of the three cold rolling workshops, there were no casualties, and it was quickly contained, a source close to the company confirms to Kallanish.

A plan to restore the plant's operations was quickly put into effect, which is expected to be completed within a few weeks. Industrial and commercial agreements were also quickly concluded to minimize the impact on supplies, including in the short term.

In recent weeks, there have been several reports of fires at steel mills across Europe. One of the affected plants, ArcelorMittal Fos-sur—Mer, is redirecting some orders to other plants in France to minimize damage to customers. After a fire in October, which led to a complete shutdown of production at the Fos-sur—Mer plant, the company acquired a slab abroad in order to fulfill its supply obligations by the end of the year.

A fire at Thyssenkrupp Steel's Bruckhausen site in Duisburg in late October caused some damage to the equipment of the new hot rolling mill No. 4. The fire broke out after an explosion in the furnace, as a result of which no one was injured, and was brought under control.

Meanwhile, an accident recently occurred at the Acciaierie d' Italia (ADI) plant in Taranto. The company reported that this happened during the commissioning work in the central workshop (see Kallanish passim).
