The German company Miebach will supply Tata Steel UK with a new laser welding machine
German equipment supplier Miebach has announced the delivery of a high—performance laser welding machine for the future Tata Steel UK etching line in Port Talbot, one of the most technologically advanced roll processing projects in the country.
The new line is designed to process 1.8 million tons of steel strip per year and will be an important part of Tata Steel UK's plan to modernize production and reduce carbon dioxide emissions throughout the value chain. According to a statement from Miebach, the line is scheduled to be put into operation in 2028.
The Miebach system is designed to meet the high demands of continuous steel production and will be easily integrated into the new Tata Steel production line. The company's laser welding technology provides:
Compatible with strips from 1.4mm to 6.2mm thick
Integration of continuous lines to ensure a smooth production process
Durable welds, suitable for various steel grades
Compatible with cold rolling, ensuring smooth post-processing
High process stability and maximum operational availability
The Miebach laser welding system, which ensures high-precision roll joining, is expected to increase productivity, reduce downtime, and ensure consistent product quality, which is a key factor in efficient low-carbon production.
