Henrik Adam re-elected President of EUROFER

Today, the European Steel Association (EUROFER) has elected its new board of directors, president and vice presidents. Henrik Adam was confirmed as president of the organization for another two years.

Dr. Henrik Adam is currently the Executive Chairman of Tata Steel Netherlands Holding BV and Chairman of the VDEh Institute of Steel in Germany. He has been president of EUROFER since November 2023, and previously, since 2019, he served as Vice President. He was also the chairman of WorldAutoSteel. With his extensive experience in the steel industry, Adam's renewed mandate ensures leadership continuity at a crucial time for the industry's future.

Speaking after his re-election, Dr. Adam said: "I am eager to continue the important work that we have begun to maintain the competitiveness of our industry and ensure the conditions for a successful transition. It's not just about steel, which underpins key value chains, and clean technologies such as automotive and renewable energy, but also about Europe's future, industrial sovereignty, and geo-economic sustainability."

"I reaffirm my full commitment to working tirelessly with EUROFER and continuing the constructive dialogue initiated with the European Commission to advance all our key priorities.: Taking steel trade measures as soon as possible to address global overcapacity; closing loopholes in CBAM to avoid carbon emissions and job drain; and scaling back production.high energy prices to restore industrial competitiveness; increase demand by promoting European environmental friendliness; and ensure the supply and processing of ferrous scrap in the EU. Only by following this path will we be able to preserve the prosperity of Europe," he added.

"I look forward to continuing to work closely with Henrik Adam to lead the European steel industry through a difficult period of transition and one of the most threatening existential crises the sector has ever faced. His continued leadership is essential to move forward on the path that we have embarked on jointly with the European Commission, the European Parliament and the member States, as well as to ensure the full, reliable and urgent implementation of the Steel and Metals Production Action Plan and the successful decarbonization of the industry. This will remain our focus in the coming years: Europe can only become stronger with European steel," concluded Axel Eggert, CEO of EUROFER.
