Knauf Interfer reorganizes metallurgical activities
The German distribution group Knauf Interfer has reorganized its steel division, creating a new structure and investing heavily, Kallanish reports.
In the future, the steel division will be divided into steel and functional metal maintenance divisions. The Steel Service division will combine the activities and logistical capabilities of steel service centers, a billet shop and a sales office in the Benelux countries. The production and finishing of the cold-rolled strip will be combined in the functional metals division.
Among its processing and finishing services, Knauf highlights a multilayer surface coating, in which several layers of various metal coatings are applied to the surface of the strip steel. This allows you to combine the advantages of different metal coatings, explains Knauf.
It also provides selective finishing, a process that allows the coating to be selectively applied to certain areas of the steel strip, leaving other areas untreated. The company notes that, thanks to the cutting line and other equipment, the steel mill is also capable of producing complex products.
In parallel with the reorganization, Knauf Interfer began investing in steel production. In August, extensive expansion and new construction work began at the Delta Stahl plant in Barsinghausen, Germany. In May, Knauf expanded its portfolio in the field of strip finishing through integration with the H. D. Lenzen group of companies.
."In the long term, the importance of distribution, including domestic procurement, warehousing, processing and logistics, for national and international supply chains will continue to grow," says Domenico Marino, the group's chief operating Officer.
