Two applications have been submitted for the acquisition of former Ilva plants in Taranto
By the deadline set for midnight on December 11, two applications had been submitted for the acquisition of business units of the former Ilva plants in Taranto in southern Italy, according to a statement released on December 12 by the Emergency Commissioners of Acciaierie d'Italia for Emergency Management and Ilva for Emergency Management. The administration, which clarified that the proposals were submitted by Bedrock Industries and Flacks Group.
Both applications relate to the acquisition of the entire business perimeter and were submitted appropriately in accordance with the conditions set out in the tender procedure. The Emergency Commissioners will now begin reviewing the proposals to assess their completeness and compliance with the requirements set out in the tender.
The tender procedure remains open. As stipulated in the application announcement, additional interested parties may still submit additional proposals, provided that these proposals are improved upon those already received.
The filing of the two applications represents an important step in the process of divesting former Ilva assets, which continues within a complex industrial, financial and institutional framework.
As previously reported by SteelOrbis, the sale process is closely linked to the ongoing discussions on the decarbonization plan for the Taranto steel mill, including negotiations on the future DRI center, energy supply solutions, and financial resources needed to ensure production continuity during the transition phase. At the same time, key issues remain open regarding the overall economic sustainability of the enterprise and the job security that the unions are asking for.
Thus, the evaluation of the submitted applications and the possible participation of additional participants will be crucial for determining the next stages of the procedure and the prospects for the development of the industry of Italy's largest steelmaking center.
