Local scrap metal prices in Poland strengthened at a higher level in December
As SteelOrbis predicted last week, and in line with local trends in scrap metal prices in other European countries, local purchase prices at factories in Poland increased in December compared with November.
Despite the fact that sales of finished metal products in the local Polish market are not high and the market seems calm due to the approaching winter holidays, there are some signs of rising prices for finished metal products due to various factors, especially the CBAM problem.
Following the trend of increasing purchase prices for scrap at enterprises in other European countries such as Germany, Italy and France, Polish enterprises also increase purchase prices for scrap by 50-70 Polish zloty per ton (12-15 euros per ton) on a monthly basis. According to market sources, Polish factories now pay an average of 1,145 Polish zlotys per ton (about 270 euros per ton) of HMS I scrap and 1,040 Polish zlotys per ton (about 245 euros per ton) of HMS II scrap.
In the export segment, exporters are reporting slightly higher offers compared to the latest data collected by SteelOrbis, as suppliers "could no longer sell at these prices[i.e. €243/mt DAP on average]" due to rising scrap import prices in Turkey earlier this month. - the source said. As a result, prices for HMS I scrap metal at export warehouses in Poland have settled at around 250 euros per ton, an increase of about 7 euros per ton since the beginning of the month.
"Most likely, the prices of port wines will have to rise[considering that exporters’ bids for HMS I/II 80:20 scrap at other European ports are in the range of €265-269/mt DAP], but at the moment there are no clear signals from sellers that would justify such a step," commented a major Polish exporter.
