Ukrainian Metinvest acquired a pipe plant in Romania
The Ukrainian Mining and Metallurgical group Metinvest has announced the acquisition of the Tubular Products IașI SA (AMTP IașI) pipe plant in Romania from ArcelorMittal. According to a statement released by the company on Wednesday, the acquisition was completed on December 16, 2025. The company, located in Iasi, produces welded structural pipes for construction, mechanical engineering, infrastructure and agriculture. With a maximum production capacity of 240,000 tons per year, the plant is equipped with five pipe rolling mills, two slitting lines and two coating lines. This is Metinvest's first production facility in Romania. Yuri Ryzhenkov, CEO of Metinvest, emphasized the importance of the acquisition, emphasizing the company's goal to strengthen the integration of the metallurgical industry of Ukraine and the European Union. Ryzhenkov stated: "Even before the outbreak of a full-scale war, Metinvest began to establish a link between steel production in Ukraine and the EU. This new plant provides a unique opportunity to integrate our production facilities in Iasi and Zaporizhia, while simultaneously creating jobs in both regions. This step is part of our contribution to post-war reconstruction. I believe that the plant's products will be in demand not only in the EU, but also during the restoration of Ukraine's war-ravaged infrastructure and industry." It was noted that the acquisition process took several months. The deal was approved by the European Commission on November 24, 2025, in accordance with EU rules on mergers, followed by approval by Romania's national antimonopoly authority after reviewing the issue of foreign investment. Alexander Mironenko, Chief Operating Officer of Metinvest, noted that the location of the plant provides a significant logistical advantage. Mironenko commented: "Historically, our enterprises in Ukraine have produced large volumes of hot-rolled coils both for the domestic market and for export. The fact that the Romanian plant is located only 600 kilometers from Zaporizhia allows us to supply up to 180,000 tons of hot-rolled coils produced by Zaporizhstal per year. This ensures a constant flow of orders and stable operation of the Romanian enterprise." The full integration of the plant into the production and organizational structure of Metinvest is planned to be completed in 2026. The company also confirmed that all existing employment contracts of the company's employees in Iasi will be respected. Currently, the Metinvest Group operates not only in Ukraine and Romania, but also in Italy, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom and the United States.
