Production resumed at the ArcelorMittal plant in Fos-sur-Mer

After the October fire in Fos-sur—Mer, which led to a complete shutdown of production, ArcelorMittal resumed production at a plant in southern France, the company's Callanish said.

Blast furnace No. 2 was restarted in mid-December, and the first slab was manufactured on the night of December 21-22 for the Greek customer, which was a key step in resuming production. The slab was 6 meters long, 1,620 mm wide, and 229 mm thick. Rolling operations also resumed, as a result of which the slab was processed into a steel sheet with a thickness of 1.5 to 25 mm, depending on the product.

After the fire, production at the enterprise was first reduced, and then almost completely stopped, with the exception of the coke plant, the steel company said in a statement.

Due to the fire, Fos-sur—Mer was forced to redirect some orders to other plants in France in order to minimize the impact on customers. The company purchased the slabs on the side in order to fulfill its supply obligations by the end of the year (see Kallanish passim).
