Steel production in Italy increased by the end of 2025, after strong growth in December

The Italian steel sector recorded a noticeable recovery in production in the last month of 2025 and ended the year with growth.

According to data obtained by SteelRadar from the Italian steel manufacturers association Federacciai, a significant increase in steel and hot-rolled products in December led to the sector reaching its highest monthly figures for the period 2022-2024.

Steel production in Italy reached 1.4 million tons in December, an increase of 20.5% year-on-year. As a result, the total steel production for the whole of 2025 amounted to 20.7 million tons, which is 3.6% more than in 2024.

The production of hot-rolled products also maintained an upward trend in December. The production of long products increased by 18.4% year-on-year to 811,000 tons, while the production of flat products increased by 4.4% to 663,000 tons over the same period.

By the end of 2025, the production of long products increased by 5.5% to 12.3 million tons, while the production of flat products increased by 3.8% to 8.9 million tons. As a result, the increased production of hot-rolled products contributed to the overall production growth for the year.
