Salzgitter acquires manufacturer of defense components

Salzgitter says it is expanding its defense portfolio through the strategic acquisition of Thyrolf & Uhle, a medium-sized manufacturer of protective steels, according to Kallanish.

Thyrolf & Uheis manufactures steel components for infrastructure and ballistic protection, as well as for the construction of civil and military equipment. At the company's headquarters in Dessau-Rosslau, Germany, about 100 employees process more than 12,000 tons of steel per year.

For Salzgitter, the acquisition of Thyrolf & Uhle means an expansion of experience, as the company has the necessary certificates for processing parts made of safe steels, as well as the manufacturer's qualifications required by the German DIN 2303 standard.

"Germany and Europe need an efficient defense industry with a qualified material base in order to prevail in the face of geopolitical upheavals. It is in this direction that we, as Salzgitter AG, are improving our offerings," says Executive Director Gunnar Grobler
