VDMA opens a new regional branch in Benelux
The German Association of Mechanical Engineering and Crop Production, Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbauer (VDMA), has established a regional office for the Benelux region, Kallanish reports.
The VDMA has so far extended its influence to Austria, but notes that the new VDMA office in Benelux is the first "transnational" European regional association outside Germany.
VDMA Benelux is based in Maastricht, the Netherlands, where a regional office of VDMA was opened several years ago. The new division represents a significant and growing number of member companies from a region encompassing Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. The Association notes that with a turnover of about 83 billion euros (96 billion dollars) in 2025, the region is a key global center of mechanical engineering, which is deeply rooted in European values.
"Especially in times of global upheaval and rapid change, the problems faced by entrepreneurs and industry cannot be solved only at the national level. Actions are needed to strengthen and ensure the competitiveness of Europe, as well as the base of the engineering industry," says Arjan Schmit, Managing Director of VDMA Benelux.
At the first general meeting of VDMA Benelux, Teresa Spaan — Berk, Co-owner and Director of Innovation at IBS Precision Engineering BV (the Netherlands), was elected Chairman of the Management Board.
