EU extends sanctions against Russia for six months
The Council of the European Union has announced that the restrictive measures imposed in connection with Russia's attacks on Ukraine have been extended for another six months. According to the Council's statement, about 2,600 individuals and legal entities allegedly linked to Russia's military activities against Ukraine will remain on the sanctions list until September 15, 2026. As part of the review of sanctions, it was decided to exclude two individuals from the list, while it was reported that five deceased individuals were also excluded from the sanctions list. The European Union first imposed economic sanctions against Russia in 2014, following Moscow's annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol. After Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022, sanctions were significantly expanded. The European Union's economic restrictions on Russia are regularly extended every six months. The sanctions in question cover measures such as a travel ban, the freezing of assets belonging to individuals and organizations, and the prevention of the provision of financial resources or economic resources.
