The British company Tata Steel supports the initiative to develop a closed-loop economy

The initiative, launched nationwide, brings together organizations from different sectors to promote practices such as reuse, remediation, and high-quality waste recycling.

Tata Steel UK, which is one of the founding signatories of the agreement, will work with sector stakeholders to integrate integrated thinking into its business processes and contribute to the widespread adoption of solutions in this area. The company's move is seen as an important part of its strategy to transition to a more sustainable and resource-efficient steel production model.

Special attention is paid to the transformation of the electric arc furnace

Rajesh Nair, CEO of Tata Steel UK, said that the company is entering a new era in steel production, noting that with the transition to electric arc furnace (EDP) technology, waste recycling will be in the spotlight. Nair stressed that thanks to this transformation, high-quality British-made steel will be produced using more environmentally friendly methods.

Due to the company's transition to a production model based on EAF technology, it is planned to use scrap steel from the UK as the main raw material. This approach is designed to promote more efficient use of resources by increasing the closeness of the steel value chain.

Acting in partnership with the supply chain

Rajesh Nair drew attention to the importance of establishing close cooperation with the supply chain, stating that as a result of this process, waste will be reduced, resources will be used more wisely, and the sustainability of the UK manufacturing sector will increase.

Initially, this initiative will be supported by a task force consisting of organizations from different sectors. With the help of this structure, it aims to expand the practice of closed-loop economics, introduce practical solutions and share accumulated experience.

The fact that steel can be recycled, reused and repurposed multiple times without loss of quality puts the industry at the center of a closed-loop economy, and Tata Steel UK's participation in this initiative is an important step strengthening the company's approach to sustainable production.
