EU initiates GOES investigation on transformer steel protection
The European Commission has initiated a special investigation into the import of electrical steel with a granular structure (GOES), as well as transformer sheets and cores.
These products were not subject to the EU steel protection measures. Their inclusion in the new study marks a significant shift in the development of EU trade policy.
Grain-oriented electrical steel is an important raw material for transformer production and plays a key role in achieving the goals of European electrification and energy transition. The investigation will assess whether the increased imports are causing serious damage to EU producers or threatening them with it.
