Global production has been declining for the seventh month in a row

Global steel production in March decreased for the seventh month in a row by 4.2% year-on-year to 159.9 million tons. In addition to India, the United States and Germany continued to curb the trend, says Kallanish from worldsteel data.

Chinese production in March decreased by 6.3% to 87.04 million tons, while in India it increased by 9.4% to 15.3 million tons. Although production in Japan decreased by 4% to 6.9 million tons, production in South Korea increased by 1.5% to 5.4 million tons.

The volume of production in the EU in March decreased by 4.6% to 11.35 million tons, although this figure increased significantly in February. The year-on-year decrease occurred despite the fact that production in Germany increased by 7.5% to 3.3 million tons, and in Italy by 0.2% to 2.06 million tons. However, production in Spain and France is estimated to have declined significantly.

Production in Turkey increased by 6.4% to 3.33 million tons (see separate article).

S. steel production rose 5.2% to 7.2 million tons in March, while Brazilian production fell 2.5% to 2.8 million tons.

Production in Russia is estimated to have decreased by 11.4% to 5.4 million tonnes, while in Ukraine it has been confirmed to have increased by 28% to 702,000 tonnes.

Thus, global steel production in January-March decreased by 2.3% year-on-year to 459.16 million tons, while India, the United States, South Korea, Turkey and Germany continued the trend.
