Spot prices for long positions in Romania decrease as slow trading leads to market correction

The spot market for long products in Romania has declined slightly this week, as traders are gradually reducing prices after a sharp increase recorded in recent weeks.

Market participants note that overall demand remains low, despite continued activity in selected infrastructure and construction projects, while most buyers continue to limit purchases to urgent needs. As a result, it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain the previously achieved higher price level, forcing retailers to adopt a more competitive pricing approach in order to boost sales. Meanwhile, sentiment in the import market remains cautious, as restrictions on protective quotas and uncertainty related to CBAM continue to reduce consumer interest. On the other hand, Romania's only domestic rebar manufacturer, Beltrame Group, has maintained its supply volume despite milder market conditions, although sources report limited sales activity and continued shortages of some of the most sought-after rebar sizes.

As a result, spot prices for rebar in Romania decreased from 650-665 euros per ton in stock last week to 635-640 euros per ton in stock, while prices for wire rod decreased from 690-700 euros per ton to 685-690 euros per ton in stock.

As for production, Beltrame Group still indicates prices for fittings at around 640-650 euros per ton from the factory.

Meanwhile, in the import segment, Romanian buyers remain mostly calm, no significant transactions outside the EU have been reported recently, as buyers continue to act cautiously amid uncertainty related to CBAM and quotas, as well as weak demand. Nevertheless, there was some activity in procurement last week, as Romanian buyers purchased materials from the nearest EU suppliers, in particular from Bulgaria, which reduced order completion times and simplified procurement procedures. Meanwhile, offers were received from Italy for the sale of fittings at a price of about 650-665 euros per ton. On the other hand, Greek suppliers offered rebar at a price of 655-665 euros per ton of CFR and wire rod at a price of 665-675 euros per ton of CFR. Earlier it was reported that their offers were about 670-680 euros per ton of rebar and 660-670 euros per ton of wire rod. Meanwhile, non-EU countries have received offers from Egyptian suppliers at a price of 545-550 euros per ton of rebar and 560-565 euros per ton of wire rod, compared with 550-560 euros per ton of rebar and 560-570 euros per ton of wire rod last week. Turkish suppliers, meanwhile, have slightly increased their offers to
