Toyota supports Japanese Tier IV self-driving startup in its development

Toyota has acquired a small but strategically important stake in Japanese Tier IV autonomous vehicle development startup as part of a broader effort to accelerate the adoption of autonomous vehicles while maintaining safety and adapting to regional market conditions, Nikkei reports.

Through Toyota Invention Partners, the group acquired about 1% of Tier IV shares for about 1 billion yen and signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of autonomous systems. Toyota plans to use Tier IV technology to equip its e-Palette electric shuttle with Level 4 autonomous capabilities by fiscal year 2027, enabling fully autonomous operation under certain conditions.
