Nordwest Handel lifts steel production volume, revenue

Nordwest Handel, through its Phoenix steel division, increased its steel product turnover in 2025 after a two-year decline and continues this trend this year.

As one of Germany's largest hardware, plumbing, building materials and steel purchasing cooperatives, Nordwest Handel achieved total revenue of 4.65 billion euros ($5.39 billion) in 2025, which is broadly in line with the previous year's level.

In terms of production volumes, the metallurgical division is the largest division of the cooperative, with revenue of 1.56 billion euros, an increase of 3.2% compared to the same period last year. In terms of volumes, Phoenix processed 1.64 million tons of steel for its member companies, an increase of 1.6% compared to the same period last year. 2024.

In its report, Nordwest notes that growth occurred mainly in the first half of the year, while negative growth was observed in the second half of the year. The growth rate decreased by 3.3% compared to the same period last year.

This adds that the overall positive dynamics in the first half of the year was driven by both an increase in sales and a higher average price level for the year.

Callanish heard from the head of the Phoenix division, Claudio Kemper, that the volume increase was more noticeable in the first half. He attributes this to increased demand for rebar, which accounts for more than half of Nordwest's steel sales, as well as a slight recovery in construction activity. He believes that the number of orders decreased in the second half of the year due to uncertainty regarding the upcoming adoption of CBAM rules.

In the first quarter of this year, Phoenix reported annual growth of 6.5% compared to the already successful first quarter of 2025, reaching revenue of 419 million euros. The division represents the interests of more than 100 steel buyers in Germany.
